The TKTS booth is an outreach by the Theatre Development Fund where people can purchase unsold tickets to Broadway and Off Broadway Shows on the day of the show at a discounted price. Located in the middle of Times Square at 48th Street, you can’t miss the giant red staircase and line of eager theatregoers. Many Broadway shows offer discount tickets that can only be purchased at the box office, usually day of. These can include general rush tickets, student rush tickets, standing room only, or lotteries. Information about these options will be available on show websites. WHERE TO EAT:
Family Dinners
Carmine’s – This family style restaurant is a place where you share Italian cooking with a side of great conversation. Order the penne alla vodka and be sure to save room for that Italian cheesecake!
West 44th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues
http://www.carminesnyc.com/
Dallas BBQ – It’s easy to get lost in the neon of 42nd street, but even wedged on a block with Madame Tussauds and Spiderman, you won’t miss Dallas BBQ. Kids meals, affordable dishes, and Texas-sized margaritas are just a few of the things that pack this eatery full. Make sure to get their honey barbeque sauce — they’ll put it on anything for you if you ask right.
West 42nd between 7th and 8th Avenues
Vynl – Out of all of Manhattan, Vynl stands above every other theme restaurant with its combination of trendy and kitsch — case in point: each bathroom is themed after a celebrity musician. The atmosphere is as fun as the décor, and there’s no beating the wall-size mosaic Dolly Parton in her bathroom. Order their mac n’ cheese or the famous Vynl Burger.
9th Avenue between 50 and 51st streets
Elegant Eats
Sardi’s – This two-level bistro is a Broadway institution. Here tourists and professionals meet among the famous caricatures of stage legends for a snack and to be seen. Sardi’s has a pre fixe as well as pre-show dinner and post-show supper, so whatever you need, Sardi’s will provide. (Featured in The Muppets Take Manhattan.)

21 Club – A landmark in New York, the 21 Club continues to be a favorite haunt of the elite. There is a strict dress code and reservations are a must, but the pork belly is to die for—worth it! 21 Club manages the impossible by maintaining an impeccable fine dining environment without the unwanted stuffiness. $5 parking available with dinner reservations.
West 52nd between 5th and 6th Avenues
Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House – This world class steakhouse is a NY Magazine Critic’s Pick and a Zagat sweetheart. Del Frisco’s is everything you want a steakhouse to be — decked with woodwork and serving the finest in beef and seafood. Lunch, dinner, and cocktails available.
Sixth Avenue at 49th Street
AFTER SHOW COCKTAILS:
Broadway Lounge at the Marriott Marquise – Perched above the lights of Times Square on the 8th floor of the Marriott Marquise, the Broadway Lounge is a fun, flashy bar with great service and stylish drinks. The décor is reminiscent of a convention center, but the view is brilliant.
West 47th between Broadway and 8th Avenue
Bamboo 52 – This trendy bar brings together my three favorite things: sushi, delicious signature cocktails, and a happy hour. But really, the drinks are the reason to hit this hot spot. Their Wasabitini and Basil Pear Martini can change your life. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, have the volcano bowl!
West 52nd between 8th and 9th Avenues
The Library – Located inside the trendy Hudson Hotel, the Library is a stylish, warm little nook where your cocktails come with walls of books, billiards, and a roaring fireplace. With leather sofas, gilt mirrors, and laptops, it looks like old New England but operates like our Manhattan. This is a great, little-known place off the usual tourist radar.

Jazz at 59E59 – Post-show every Thursday night, the adorable Anderson twins play live jazz post show at 59E59’s E:Bar, rated by Time Out NY as the number 1 theatre bar in the city. It’s a little far East, but it’s a gorgeous space and a fun night!
59 E 59th Street between Park and Madison, Post Show
Manic Mondays – Join NYC’s Theatre Drag Queen du jour Showbiz Spitfire Paige Turner every Monday night at 11PM (11:30 drag time) at Bartini Ultra-Lounge for Manic Mondays. As with all Paige Turner shows, you can count on songs, games, and all the snarky musical theatre jokes she can muster! It’s somewhere between a roller coaster and a train wreck, but you’ll have a good time going down! $5 Drink Specials.
10th Avenue between 45th and 46th Streets, 11PM

New World Stages, 49th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues
CHEAP DRINKS:
Jimmy’s Corner – Owned by boxing trainer Jimmy Glenn, Jimmy’s Corner is dive bar with cheap drinks and a lot of character. The walls are covered with memorabilia, and you can get a Bombay Sapphire martini for only $7! You should stick to the beer, though.
West 44th between 6th and 7th Avenues
1 2 3 Burger Shot Beer – The name says it all. At this raucous watering hole, burgers are $1, shots are $2, and beers are $3. That’s a good deal anywhere!

CHEAP PIZZA
In a hurry or looking to save a couple of dollars? Nothing hits the spot (or the wallet) like a $1 slice of pizza, and you can find these establishments all over:
99cent Fresh Pizza, West 43rd and 8th Avenue, beside Second Stage Theatre
99cent Fresh Pizza, Broadway between 54th and 55th, West side of the street
Z Deli, 8th Avenue between 48th and 49th
99cent Express Pizza at 42nd and 8th
99cent Pizza, 9th Avenue at 41st street
2 Bros Pizza, 9th Avenue at 40th Street
BATHROOMS
Of course Starbucks and McDonald’s all over Manhattan have saved many a needy bladder, but here are a few other options for when you need to excuse yourself in Times Square. Here are some of our favorite loo's.
• The Marriott Marquis – There is a lovely loo on the second floor of this huge hotel. In addition to guest rooms, this building also has a theatre, restaurants, conference rooms, and bars, so nobody will think twice when you walk right in.
• The M&M Store – Go to the very top floor to find their bathrooms.
• Europa Café on 6th Avenue between 45th and 46th streets. The bathroom is to the left when you walk in the door.
And of course any hotel or bar will have a restroom, some are just easier to access than others. Word to the wise, NY health code requires a bathroom for any eating establishment with more than 17 seats.
GETTING AROUND
All roads lead to Rome and all subway lines seem to lead to Times Square. The Times Square subway station at 42nd street hosts the 1, 2, 3, A, C, E, N, Q, R and Shuttle to Grand Central Station where you can grab the 4, 5, or 6. Entrances are to the Times Square subway station are located at intersections alone 42nd Street, 43rd Street, 44th Street, Broadway, and 7th Avenue. If you prefer the bus, your crosstown options are the M42 and the M50, on 42nd Streets and 50th Streets, respectively, and to go uptown and downtown, try the M104. If you’re feeling adventurous, pedicabs are the pricey but kitschy way to go.
